Full-time professionals volunteer their time to tutor students preparing for the SAT at St. Mary's Recreation Center located in the South Bronx.
The Ebony Society of the City of New York Department of Parks & Recreation was founded in 1985. It was a realization that there was a need to unite people in a socio-fraternal organization and provide a means for working people to help worthy causes. The Society was chartered in 1987 and, since that time, has offered its members educational and economic workshops, lectures, events, fundraisers, and trips. The Society is a secured lifetime member organization with the NAACP and has contributed to the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and the United Negro College Fund.
